Testimonials
Diane and Jim Anderson in Lima Dear Chile For Less,

We appreciated the ground staff arranged by Latin America for Less in the five different countries (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Ecuador) we visited, who, without fail, arranged for us to meet and depart on eleven separate flights at all hours of the day. Having personal transfers from airports to hotels (and vice versa) and to be picked up and delivered at our hotels before and after tours took so much of the stress and uncertainty out of the trip.

Diane and Jim, Victoria, BC Canada.

Chile Packages: Across Chile's regions

Tour to Santiago, Patagonia, Lake District & San Pedro de Atacama - From $4,129 €3,621 £2,899
Santiago, Patagonia, Lake District & San Pedro de Atacama Tour Picture, Chile Travel, Chile For Less

Discover the spectacular landscapes of Chile from the arid deserts of the north to the rugged, wind-swept landscapes of Patagonia in the south. This exciting tour will lead you to the most inspiring natural beauties in Chile as you explore the various climates of the longest country on Earth.

Your tour will begin on the streets of cosmopolitan Santiago, home to a third of the country’s population. There is no better place to learn about the rich Chilean culture, mingle with the warm and friendly people, and experience the effervescent Chilean way of life than in the vibrant city of Santiago. Only a short drive away you can wander the charming streets of bohemian Valparaiso and the warm beaches of Viña del Mar.

From here you will head to the Atacama region, where natural wonders such as spewing geysers, moon-like valleys with strange rock formations, and immense salt flats dotted with pink flamingoes await you. Next, you head to the Lake District, full of green rolling hills, snow-capped volcanoes, and tranquil lakes. Often compared to the Swiss Alps, Chile’s Lake District is unrivalled in its excellent hiking opportunities and picturesque views. Climb volcanoes, discover waterfalls, and visit the quaint island of Chiloe where witches are said to fly by the light of the moon.

Make sure you enjoy the sun, because next you will head south to the stunning glaciers and pristine beauty of Torres del Paine National Park. Considered one of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet, the park is home to glacial lakes and granite peaks of monolithic proportions.

Itinerary and Prices

Day 1: Arrival to Santiago & Santiago Tour

You will be met at the Santiago Airport by a Chile For Less representative and transferred to your comfortable hotel in Santiago. Check out our selection of great value Santiago Hotels.

Today, you will head out on a half day historical tour of Santiago to visit some of the city’s most interesting sites and learn about the fascinating history of Chile and its capital.

You will start the tour driving up the Santa Lucia hill where Santiago was founded. You will then continue on to the historic downtown, Plaza de Armas (Main Square), where stand some of Santiago’s historic buildings. You will see the Cathedral, City Hall, Central Post Office, and National Historical Museum.

You will then drive to the civic area to see the Moneda Presidential Palace, current seat of the Chilean government. The tour will continue through charming streets lined with 19th century buildings, passing the statue of Typical Zone, the Cousiño Palace, and the Basilica de los Sacramentinos (inspired by the Montmartre church in Paris).

The tour will end on the Alameda Bernardo O’Higgins, Santiago’s main avenue where you will visit the San Francisco church and its beautiful colonial museum and monastery. The church boasts a peaceful garden and an important religious art collection.

You will have the remainder of the afternoon and evening to explore Santiago at your leisure. Try some delicious traditional Chilean cuisine in one of the many restaurants, discover some of its exciting barrios, and take advantage of the lively nightlife!

Day 2: Valparaiso & Viña del Mar Tour

After a delicious breakfast at your Santiago hotel, you will head out on a tour of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, two charming coastal cities located about 1.5 hours from Santiago. Look around as you travel across the beautiful valleys of Curacavi and Casablanca on your way to Valparaiso.

With its bohemian atmosphere, chaotic and colorful architecture, and lovely port, Valparaiso is one of the most attractive cities in Chile and unlike any other. You will start your tour at the Mirador 21 de Mayo from where you will enjoy spectacular views of the entire city and bay. Next you will visit the fascinating house-museum of the poet and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Pablo Neruda. Learn all about the writer’s eccentric tastes as well as his most glorious and absurd moments as you wander through the charming rooms that inspired the artist. Descend to Valparaiso’s Prat Dock, where sailors embark and men scramble across the docks loading the enormous ships. Don’t miss the handicraft markets displaying local products from all around Chile.

After lunch, you will head to Viña del Mar where you will enjoy a relaxing stroll down the quiet streets and picturesque beaches of this lovely coastal town. In the afternoon, you will return to your Santiago hotel and have the evening free to explore more of the city’s exciting spots or relax before your journey to San Pedro de Atacama tomorrow.

Day 3: Arrival to San Pedro de Atacama & Valle de la Luna Tour

Enjoy breakfast at your Santiago hotel before setting out on your journey to San Pedro de Atacama. You will fly to the Calama Airport and meet a Chile For Less Representative who will take you 60 miles (98km) to San Pedro de Atacama.

You’ll settle into your San Pedro de Atacama hotel and get acclimated to the desert atmosphere before setting out on a tour of the wind-swept Valle de la Luna. Situated about 7.5 miles (12 km) from San Pedro, this valley boasts spectacular moon-like landscapes full of strange formations created by the wind’s erosion of the salt mountains.

Sunset in Valle de la Luna is a truly magical and unforgettable experience. You’ll watch as a striking range of colors melts across the landscape. Climb up one of the dunes to get an even better view of the darkening valley and watch the stars appear. After sunset, you will return to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama and have the remainder of the evening to spend at your leisure.

Day 4: Tatio Geyser Tour

Rise before dawn and head out on a full day tour to the astonishing Tatio Geyser where you’ll witness an amazing natural phenomenon. Located at 14,760 feet (4,500 m) above sea level, this incredible geothermal field is surrounded by volcanoes and filled with geysers. You will get the chance to walk close to the geysers and their craters with a guide who will answer all your questions about this striking phenomenon.

After a well deserved breakfast next to the Tatio Geysers, you will explore the surrounding high plateau and its amazing fauna and flora. Unobstructed views of the impressive Tocorpuri and Sairecabur volcanoes will unfold before you, and you will be able to observe the native wildlife found in the wetlands. Keep your eyes open and try to spot the foxes, Vizcachas, and llamas that populate this wild landscape.

In the afternoon, you will return to San Pedro de Atacama where you will be free to explore the village and its surroundings or rest at your hotel for the remainder of the day.

Day 5: Tour to Toconao Village, Atacama Salt Flats & Chaxa Lagoon

After breakfast at your hotel, you will head south of San Pedro toward the oasis of Toconao, a verdant Andean village that manages to thrive in the middle of the barren Atacama Desert. The small colonial-style houses are made of white volcanic stone, and the town boasts a beautiful church with striking bell towers and a myriad of narrow alleys filled with small artisan workshops.

You will continue on toward the fertile lands of the nearby Quebrada de Jere, a beautiful gorge where the fruit tree orchards and grazing cattle create a striking contrast with the dryness of the surrounding desert.

Later on you will reach the impressive Atacama Salt Flats, the largest in Chile. Unlike most salt flats, which are smooth, the earth’s crust here is jagged like puzzle pieces, giving the area a striking and unusual appearance. The salt flat is home to many lagoons where pink and white flamingoes are mirrored in the still salt water. You will have the chance to visit the sparkling Chaxa Lagoon, a beautiful protected area, where you can observe the birds from up close.

Back in San Pedro, the evening will be free for you to rest in your comfortable hotel, explore the village, or try some delicious local cuisine.

Day 6: Arrival to Puerto Varas

Today you’ll leave San Pedro de Atacama and head to Chile’s lovely Lake District. After breakfast, you’ll meet your transfer to the airport for your flight to Puerto Varas. Upon arrival to the El Tepual Airport, you’ll be met by a Chile For Less representative who will take you to your comfortable Puerto Varas hotel.

You will have the remainder of the afternoon and evening to explore the lovely city of Puerto Varas on your own. Absorb the friendly atmosphere as you stroll down the streets, and duck into a local restaurant to try some regional cuisine.

Day 7: Chiloe Island Tour

Today you will set out on a tour of the mysterious and alluring archipelago of Chiloe. Consisting of one main island known as Chiloe Grande, and numerous islets, the archipelago is not only famous for its lush forests, rolling hillsides, and patchwork fields, but also for its legends and rich mythology.

You will first head toward Pargua were you will board a ferry boat to journey across the Chacao Channel to Chiloe Island. Your first stop on the island is the beautiful Caulin Bay, a natural sanctuary with rich wildlife. Among the various bird species that call this bay home, some endangered species such as black-necked swans and Chilean flamingoes deserve special mention.

You’ll continue on to the small town of Ancud along the shores of beautiful Quetalmahue Bay. You will have some free time to explore Ancud on your own and have lunch in the lively port before visiting the Museo Regional with its interesting collection highlighting the early history of Chiloe. Admire the Fortress San Antonio, which dominates the port, and wander through the bustling local market where you can browse the numerous stalls. Later on, you will board a smaller boat and head toward Peñihuil Bay, where various islets are home to large colonies of Magellan and Humboldt penguins. They nest from September to March.

After a full day exploring this region, you will be taken back to your hotel in Puerto Varas. The evening is free for you to explore the town on your own.

Day 8: Petrohue Falls & Osorno Volcano Tour

Continue exploring the splendid Lake District with a tour to the Petrohue Falls, located in the magnificent Vincente Perez Rosales National Park, followed by a visit to the majestic Osorno Volcano. You’ll travel near the shores of Lake Llanquihue, the largest in Chile and third largest natural lake in South America. On the way, you will pass by the traditional German architecture of the old houses built by the first German settlers. You will also have the chance to see the picturesque village of Ensenada, as well as the Pescado River, Puerto Arthur, and Los Riscos.

In Ensenada, the road runs inland to the mountain range and passes by the magnificent Petrohue Falls, a cascading succession of emerald water. You will take a walk through the coigüe trees in Vincente Perez Rosales Park toward Laguna Verde and finally up to Osorno Volcano. From the volcano’s crater (3,280 feet above sea level) you will enjoy the most spectacular views of the entire Petrohue river valley, Andes mountain range, and Calbuco Volcano.

Later in the afternoon, you will return to Puerto Varas and have the rest of the evening free to rest in your hotel or relax in the pleasant atmosphere of this picturesque lake town.

Day 9: Arrival to Punta Arenas

Today you’ll leave the Lake District and fly south to icy Patagonia. You’ll be taken to the airport for your flight south, and upon arrival to the Punta Arenas airport, a Chile For Less representative will take you to your confirmed Punta Arenas hotel. You will enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure exploring the lively city on your own.

Day 10: Arrival to Puerto Natales

After a filling breakfast in your hotel, you will meet your transfer to the bus station for your journey to Puerto Natales. Upon arrival, a Chile For Less representatives will meet you and escort you to your confirmed Puerto Natales hotel. You will have the rest of the day to rest at your hotel and start exploring the quaint town on your own.

Day 11: Torres del Paine Tour

Begin your full day excursion into the strikingly beautiful Torres del Paine National Park. Along the way you will stop at Milodon Cave, an enormous cavern that is almost 100 feet high and 230 feet deep. This cave is the site where Captain Hermann Eberhard discovered the remains of a prehistoric giant ground sloth called a Milodon.

The tour continues from here through the hills and extended plains of the Chilean Patagonia before reaching Torres del Paine National Park. This World Biosphere Reserve is home to pumas, foxes, Guanacos, and rheas that coexist in the forests of Lenga, Coigues, and Magellan barberry beneath the awesome jagged peaks of Torres del Paine.

You will admire Lake Nordeskjold draining into Lake Pehoe at Salto Grande and the granite massifs of Cuernos del Paine, which dominate the skyline. Eat lunch along the shores of Lake Grey, enjoying the views of the Grey glacier. After lunch you will continue on to Amarga Lagoon, which has some of the best views in Torres del Paine before returning to your comfortable hotel in Puerto Natales to relax.
