The Pantanal is a tropical wetland isolated in southwestern Brazil. It is the largest wetland in the world, and in the rainy season the river deltas throughout the region flood dramatically, which has spared it from much human development. Tropical birds, pumas, jaguars, anteaters, monkeys, and capybaras flourish in this well-watered area.
Cuiabá, the capital of the Mato Grosso state, is the linchpin for Pantanal tours. Visitors can take a bus or flight to this city before embarking on forays into the jungle. From their Pantanal lodge, visitors can go on wildlife hikes, sip piranha soup, go for an off-road safari ride, or take a relaxing canoe journey through the wetlands. This is a place unlike any other in the world.
The following itinerary is offered for a stay at the Pousada do Rio Mutum. Should you wish to stay at one of our other recommended lodge, activities are subject to change. Ask your travel advisor for details.
Day 1 : Arrival to Pantanal
Day 2 : Horseback Riding & Boat Tour
Day 3 : Ecological Walk & Boat Tour

Day 1 : Arrival to Pantanal

- Upon arrival to the city of Cuiabá, the capital of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, a representative will meet you at the airport for your transfer to the Pousada do Rio Mutum lodge. The journey will take about 3.5 hours.
- When you arrive at the lodge, you’ll have time to settle into your room and then be treated to a delicious dinner of local cuisine. After dinner, you’ll receive a briefing on the activities for the following days and about the Pantanal region in general.
Day 2 : Horseback Riding & Boat Tour

- After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll take a horseback ride through the wetlands until you reach a Pantanal plantation where you can observe diverse and numerous species of birds and wildlife.
- Return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon boat ride on the Mutum River. Keep an eye out for giant otters, stingrays, and huge schools of fish, as well as mammals and birds.
- After dinner back at the lodge, you will take a Jeep safari ride to spot nocturnal wildlife.
Day 3 : Ecological Walk & Boat Tour

- After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll begin an ecological walk led by an English-speaking expert guide. Your guide will point out local flora and fauna – this region is one of the best in the world for bird watching.
- In the afternoon you’ll enjoy lunch back at the lodge to refuel before your next Pantanal travel adventure: a boat ride to neighboring canals and great bird watching locations.
- Before returning to the lodge for dinner, stop to enjoy the sunset and fish for piranha (only available April-September).
Day 4 : Departure from Pantanal

- Wake up early to take a dazzling sunrise canoe ride and witness as the jungle comes alive. You’ll then return to the lodge for your last breakfast in the Pantanal before meeting the transfer back to Cuiabá for your journey home or to the next destination on your Brazil vacation.
