Thanks for putting together a great itinerary. I had a fabulous time. Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Santiago de Chile each were exciting and interesting in their own way and greatly exceeded my expectations.

Itinerary and Prices

Day 1: Arrival to Santiago & City Tour

You will be met at the Santiago Airport by a Chile For Less representative and transferred to your comfortable hotel in Santiago. Check out our selection of great value Santiago Hotels.

Today, you will head out on a half day historical tour of Santiago to visit some of the most interesting sites in Santiago and learn about the fascinating history of Chile and its capital.

You will start the tour driving up the Santa Lucia hill where Santiago was founded. You will then continue on to the historic downtown, Plaza de Armas (Main Square), where stand some of Santiago’s historic buildings. You will see the Cathedral, City Hall, Central Post Office, and National Historical Museum.

You will then drive to the civic area to see the Moneda Presidential Palace, current seat of the Chilean government. The tour will continue through charming streets lined with 19th century buildings, passing the statue of Typical Zone, the Cousiño Palace, and the Basilica de los Sacramentinos (inspired by the Montmartre church in Paris).

The tour will end on the Alameda Bernardo O’Higgins, Santiago’s main avenue where you will visit the San Francisco church and its beautiful colonial museum and monastery. The church boasts a peaceful garden and an important religious art collection.

You will have the remainder of the afternoon and evening to explore Santiago at your leisure. Try some delicious traditional Chilean cuisine in one of the many restaurants, discover some of its exciting barrios, and take advantage of the lively nightlife!

Day 2: Valparaiso and Viña del Mar Tour

After a delicious breakfast at your Santiago hotel, you will head out on a tour of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, two charming coastal cities located only an hour from Santiago. Look around as you travel across the beautiful valleys of Curacavi and Casablanca on your way to Valparaiso.

With its bohemian atmosphere, chaotic and colorful architecture, and lovely port, Valparaiso is one of the most attractive cities in Chile and unlike any other. You will start your tour at the Mirador 21 de Mayo from where you will enjoy spectacular views of the entire city and bay.

Next you will visit the fascinating house-museum of the poet and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Pablo Neruda. Easily one of the most important figures of Chilean culture, it was in Valparaiso that Pablo Neruda, tired of the tumultuous life of Santiago, decided to retire and establish himself in a house on Mount Florida. Learn all about the writer’s eccentric tastes as well as his most glorious and absurd moments as you wander through the charming rooms that inspired the artist.

Descend to Valparaiso’s Prat Dock, where sailors embark and men scramble across the docks loading the enormous cargo ships. Filled with swarms of people and fervent activity, there is no better place to get a sense of the lively port life in Santiago. Don’t miss the handicraft markets displaying local products from all around Chile.

After lunch, you will head out to Viña del Mar where you will enjoy a relaxing stroll down the quiet streets and picturesque beaches of this lovely coastal town.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Santiago and have the evening free to explore more of the city’s exciting spots.

Day 3: Arrival to Easter Island

After breakfast at your Santiago hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Easter Island. A Chile For Less Representative will meet you at the Easter Island airport and take you to your comfortable Easter Island hotel to relax and enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 4: Easter Island Cultural Tour

After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you will depart for a half-day excursion to Ahu Tahai and the Anthropological Museum. Ahu Tahai is the site on the western shores of the island where the moais show unusual and unique characteristics.  One moai has eyes and a topknot for example. Another interesting feature is that while most moai are similar in size and shape, these moais vary significantly.  This presents an interesting puzzle for archeologists who try to decipher the reason why these statues show different characteristics from both one another and all other moai.   On your way back to your hotel, you will stop at the anthropological museum which has excellent descriptions of island life both historically and today.

In the afternoon you will visit Ahu Akivi, Puna a Pau, and the cave Te Pahu.  Ahu Akivi is another unique ahu composed of seven moai. Whereas most moai are located along the coast with their backs to the sea, these moai are located inland and face the sunset.  The site offers sweeping views of the western part of the island and is a perfect spot to photograph both the moais and the island landscapes.

From here you will head to Puna Pau, a small quarry located on the outskirts of the principal quarry on Easter Island, and the sole source of the red scoria rock that they used to make the topknots for the moai. After you visit the quarry, you will head to the caves where the island’s inhabitants once lived.  The caves are actually hollowed out empty lava tubes and are pretty sizable. In the early evening you will return to your hotel to relax and spend the evening as you wish.

Day 5: Rano Raruku Volcano Tour

After a hearty breakfast you will depart for Rano Raruku Volcano, on the southern tip of the island.  The volcano’s crater is full of pooled rain water and lush vegetation and is easily the most beautiful on the island. The rock quarry on the outer edges of the crater offers some of the most striking views on the entire island. From here you can walk to the quarry where almost 400 moai lie scattered across the verdant hills.

Next, you will head to the largest ahu on the island, Ahu Tongariki, where 15 moai face the sunset. These statues were originally toppled during the civil wars on the island when rival clans competed for resources.  A tsunami in the 20th century swept across the island and moved the moai inland, but they have since been restored and re-erected.

After you enjoy your bagged lunch, you will descend down from the hills and visit the white coral sand beach of Anakena.  There are two ahus here, one with a single moai and one with six. Anakena is one of the two beaches on all of Easter Island and an important spot for the Birdman rituals. You will return to your hotel in the early evening to relax after your long day exploring Easter Island.

Day 6: Departure from Easter Island

After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight back to mainland Chile or to your next destination.
